Funny old women using computers are hilarious. They make me laugh, especially when they're convinced I SPECIFICALLY went to their house to delete files off their computer. I can't make this shit up.
January 7, 2009 Porn industry seeks federal bailout Posted: 05:27 PM ET From CNN's Rebecca Sinderbrand and Mark Preston Larry Flynt is asking for a bailout. WASHINGTON (CNN) — Another major American industry is asking for assistance as the global financial crisis continues: Hustler publisher Larry Flynt and Girls Gone Wild CEO Joe Francis said Wednesday they will request that Congress allocate $5 billion for a bailout of the adult entertainment industry. “The take here is that everyone and their mother want to be bailed out from the banks to the big three,” said Owen Moogan, spokesman for Larry Flynt. “The porn industry has been hurt by the downturn like everyone else and they are going to ask for the $5 billion. Is it the most serious thing in the world? Is it going to make the lives of Americans better if it happens? It is not for them to determine.” Francis said in a statement that “the US government should actively support the adult industry's survival and growth, just as it feels the need to support any other industry cherished by the American people." “We should be delivering [the request] by the end of today to our congressmen and [Secretary of the Treasury Henry] Paulson asking for this $5 billion dollar bailout,” he told CNN Wednesday. Flynt and Francis concede the industry itself is in no financial danger — DVD sales have slipped over the past year, but Web traffic has continued to grow. But the industry leaders said the issue is a nation in need. "People are too depressed to be sexually active," Flynt said in the statement. "This is very unhealthy as a nation. Americans can do without cars and such but they cannot do without sex." "With all this economic misery and people losing all that money, sex is the farthest thing from their mind. It's time for congress to rejuvenate the sexual appetite of America. The only way they can do this is by supporting the adult industry and doing it quickly." So far, there has been no congressional reaction to the request. –CNN’s Chloe Melas contributed to this report original article at http://politicalticker.blogs.cnn.com/2009/01/07/porn-industry-seeks-federal-bailout/
Kind of short, but still keeping on top of my resolution. I'm going to start a new blog (link coming soon!) that features the definitions of actual words my friends and I at work have come across. We have some gems in there. My favorites so far: -exactually -understandoing -complifications -earfly Seriously, there will be some awesome definitions on there, once I get my ass in gear and get it up. Also, created a book blog for my eventual reading of books. You can read it at 52books1year.tumblr.com
New Year's Eve was a BLAST! I had a ton of fun and stayed up until 7am talking to people until eventually just getting kicked out. Here are some highlights from the evening: Sarah and I attempt to be gangstas while watching Office Space. Shiney myspaces my camera. It wouldn't be a party without a picture of Wasta doing that... Three very cute girls. One very drunk looking Phil. More will be coming later. I need to catch up on that sleeping thing.

Before I pass out, here's a brief list of my new year's resolutions: 1. Work out at least twice a week. 2. Floss daily. 3. Blog once a day about something. 4. Read at least 50 books I haven't read before. 5. See 15 movies in theaters. I'll expand more later. For now, sleep.

Watch this video. It's seriously hilarious. It's from Norm Macdonald's old sitcom he used to have. How did I miss this?!
Wed, Dec. 10th, 2008, 10:26 am Seriously...
...do you even GET to be mad at someone saying you don't think they care to talk to you anymore if you REFUSE to say you're dating? Just sayin'. Also, job is pretty much a go. Just need the official email and I start Monday.

Okay, so, due to circumstances beyond my control (i.e. ICE), I've had to revise my goals slightly from the last post. Here is the revised list: 1. Do yoga at least twice a week. It relaxes me and will definitely help gain my strength. Cannot do this one due to sprained knee. It takes forever for me to get over sprains. 2. Get some sort of job. (I think I took care of this today). 3. FINISH geekalism.com and launch it. 4. Read at least 2 books. It's been too long since I've read even one. I think it was the Twilight series, which I finished forever ago. 5. Clean up my room weekly. And I mean CLEAN. I'll do this once the knee starts feeling better. 6. Put together my bookshelves and fix my dresser. This will have to be assisted by slackdaddy . Also due to sprain 7. Write at least 500 words a day on anything. This also relaxes me. 8. Hit level 75 in World of Warcraft. I waited two hours at Best Buy to get Wrath of the Lich King. I should be able to enjoy it more now that the queues are mostly gone. 9. Take more photos! It's fun, and with the snow all around, I'm sure I can get some great shots. Maybe dumbsarah will let me borrow her camera? (Hint, hint) ;) 10. Go to the doctor if my knee is not better within a week. 11. Make at least 2 scarves for charity.

After a month of sending out my resume, only to get auto generated emails saying 'We're sorry!', I finally have a job interview at TEKSystems, a staffing agency for computer and tech related jobs. I'm really nervous and hope they'll have something for me to do, especially with me being out of practice (although I must admit my skills came back with my stint at StratosFour). It would be nice to earn some money so that I don't have to move back to Texas. About Texas, my mom was grossly exaggerating my grandfather's health state. He's doing just fine. Nothing is unusual for an 80-year-old man. It was just her way of trying to manipulate me into going home, which didn't work. I'm learning more and more that I need to take what my mom says with a grain of salt. She's proven more than once that she's not above lying to get what she wants, and I'm sick of it. I'm an adult and made the decision to stay here. She needs to realize and accept that. Things with Ali are going fantastically. He came out here for Fake Thanksgiving and was a lot more sociable than I though he'd be. He had a lot of fun and, aside from the being retarded and not wanting to say he's in a relationship, ACTS like we're in a relationship. I'm very very secure in it. We're not seeing other people and are just generally enjoying each other's company. My goals for this month are (since I'm jumping on the bandwagon): 1. Do yoga at least twice a week. It relaxes me and will definitely help gain my strength. 2. Get some sort of job. 3. FINISH geekalism.com and launch it. 4. Read at least 2 books. It's been too long since I've read even one. I think it was the Twilight series, which I finished forever ago. 5. Clean up my room weekly. And I mean CLEAN. 6. Put together my bookshelves and fix my dresser. This will have to be assisted by slackdaddy . 7. (Hint, hint) ;) Okay, seriously, I thought this would waste a lot more time than it did. I woke up insanely early today, mostly due to nerves. I really want to do well and get in good with TEK. I figure it was a good sign that they called me only 2 days after getting my resume. Plus who wants to cut ties with a tech geek WITH customer service skills and experience? And that can write insanely well? They'd have to be crazy! In conjunction with number 7, I'll probably be starting some sort of blog/portfolio/something for it. I'll link once I know. Okay just got a text message saying that roads are starting to close. I think it's time to finish getting ready and head out, since I need to get to near the airport in Cedar Rapids. This should be fun. Wish me luck! (And that I don't die on the way there!)
Tue, Nov. 18th, 2008, 04:42 pm A new hobby
I'll start off by saying I am definitely not a pro at this. The only camera I'm using is the one on my phone (which isn't too bad at all) and a small knowledge of Photoshop CS3. With that, I present, my flickr page, which will exhibit me trying to be an interesting photographer. There are three photos up so far. Let me know what you think, but be nice, given my introduction to this thing.
Sun, Nov. 9th, 2008, 09:46 pm Wow...
So in what is a crazy turn of events, I'll be moving back down to Dallas for a couple of months right before Thanksgiving. My grandfather is very old and is in the early stages of having another stroke. This one will likely kill him. The next couple of weeks are going to be crazy. I'm leaving tomorrow to go to Missouri to see my family (my grandfather's last big trip for his 80th birthday), then maybe Memphis for a day. After that, I'll come back here and pack for home. I'm very sad, as it means I won't see all my good friends up here and Ali for a while. But hopefully there will be emails and AIM conversations.
1. Stop talking about politics for a moment or two. 2. Post a reasonably-sized picture in your LJ, NOT under a cut tag, of something pleasant, such as an adorable kitten, or a fluffy white cloud, or a bottle of booze. Something that has NOTHING TO DO WITH POLITICS. 3. Include these instructions, and share the love. Here's a picture of my lovely (albeit unexpected) trip this weekend to Minnesota/Wisconsin.
Sun, Oct. 26th, 2008, 08:27 pm Video Update
Jordan sold me a snazzy new phone with a video camera that connects to my computer. Here's an update!
Here's my recent submission to failblog.org. It's HILARIOUS.
Fri, Oct. 3rd, 2008, 05:12 pm Job Update
I did indeed get the job. Now my bitch project manager can shove it. I start on Monday. =)
...okay, seriously, some people need to think before they speak. Here is an actual conversation that I had with a customer today. It has not been edited in any way. Me: Thank you for calling customer service, how may I help you? Guy: Um. I'm a little confused by my invoice. Me: *gets verification* Okay sir what problems are you having with your invoice? Guy: I'm just confused as to which invoices I've paid with what checks. Me: ...Well I can tell you over the phone which invoices you've paid. Guy: No I really need them printed on the invoices. Me: Well, sir, there's really not a way to do that. Guy: Are you sure you can't just print "Paid" on the invoice when you send it? Me: No sir, we can't. Guy: Well then can you print the check number it was paid with on there? Me: *blink, blink* Sir, we can't, as we don't know which check number you'll be using to pay as they are printed 25 days in advance. Guy: That doesn't help me. Me: Maybe you could write on your invoices which check number you're sending and then file them. Guy: But that inconveniences me! Me: I'm sorry sir but there is no way to print a check number on an invoice, as we don't know which check you'll pay with 25 days after we print it. Guy: *pauses for about a minute* Me: Sir? Guy: I guess you're right. ---------------------------------------- --------- I couldn't make this shit up if I tried.
Tue, Sep. 23rd, 2008, 08:03 pm Book Meme
1. Grab the nearest book. 2. Open the book to page 56. 3. Find the fifth sentence. 4. Post the text of the next seven sentences in your journal along with these instructions. 5. Don't dig for your favorite book, the cool book, or the intellectual one: pick the CLOSEST. 6. Tag five other people to do the same. Emma by Jane Austen The advantage of the match I felt to be all on her side; and had not the smallest doubt (nor have I now) that there would be a general cry-out upon her extreme good luck. Even your satisfaction I made sure of. It crossed my mind immediately that you would not regret your friend's leaving Highbury, for the sake of her being settled so well. I remember saying to myself "Even Emma, with all her partiality for Harriet, will think this is a good match." I cannot help wondering at your knowing so little of Emma as to say any such thing. What! think a farmer (and with all his sense and all his merit Mr. Martin is nothing more) a good match for my intimate friend! Not regret her leaving Highbury for the sake of marrying a man whom I could never admit as an acquaintance of my own! Tag: dumbsarah, peripatetic_one, charlesthegnu, nekobasu, another1stkiss
